On the first day of starting this class, I didn't know what to expect. I had very little prior knowledge to go off of. When we were first introduced to the idea of going out and taking photos, there didn't seem like there was much to it. I knew that this wasn't going to be an easy class from things I had heard in the past but I knew that taking pictures was something that I wanted to soon become an expert at .
Now that this trimester is over, I am still no expert, but I do know much more than I came in knowing. I have learned how to use online applications like Photoshop, Bridge, and Lightroom, as well as constructing this blog page in which I had never done before. I never thought of myself as a computer tech kind of person, but now after having had completed many projects and organized them in different files in my computer and on my desktop, I have a better understanding of how I can stay organized on a Mac. I was exposed to what actually goes on inside the camera when you take the photo, as well as having discovered how to manipulate the settings to where my resulting picture would have the right exposure using the exposure triangle which includes the shutter speed, aperture and ISO. This class has expanded my understanding in not only how to operate a camera in the correct way, but also being able to edit the photo to make it look how I want. I would definitely consider taking another class like this one. Below are some of the pictures that I turned in for my first photo assignment and some of my last. These photos really show my growth over the past couple of months as a photographer.

Today Mr. Bush brought in his bike to demonstrate a motion picture and how to capture an image while emphasizing the subject and blurring the background. The sun was not much help when it came to the shutter speed and lighting but using the camera raw filter I was able to lighten the exposure and slightly increase the contrast.
For this assignment, we were sent around the school and told to take pictures in the same place, of the same person, and with the camera in the same position. In photoshop we then stacked the layers on top of each other and combined the images to make it look like there were multiple Megans in the same image.
For this assignment I turned in photos of an event being Halloween. Before getting rid of our pumpkins after this month, I took some up close pictures of them. As for editing, I turned up the contrast as well as the whites. For these photos I made sure to give each picture an appropriate amount of light to where the exposure was neither over or under what it should have been. Shutter: 1/125 Aperture: 3.5 ISO: 100
I really enjoyed this assignment because not only did it take me out of my comfort zone and expose me to new areas in photoshop, but it also let me get creative and put my own spin on things. My best projects were each based around editing a persons face and its features. The first one that I tried was a color pop tutorial which was fairly easy. I then progressed into a demonstration that combined two layers to make the person's face look as though it was cracked. The third and final video that guided me was a watercolor demonstration. This one was the hardest for me, not so much because there was hard instructions but because it was not easy to follow. This was also more of a good thing because it kept me guessing and helped me to rely a little more on my prior knowledge. Overall, I really liked this project.
This weekend I took photos of a book that serves kind of as a diary. In my photos I used a dream catcher to give the photo a deeper meaning. The photos below are some of my best pictures from this past weekend. My best, shot at an aperture of 3.5, a shutter speed of 1/40, and an ISO of 400. As for edits I boosted the contrast to emphasize the texture of the dream catcher, book and curtain in the back and decreased the highlights. For this assignment we were instructed to go throughout the school and take pictures of places in or around the building we go everyday. I took a photo in the front of the school's bottom drop off loop outside. Then, using photoshop, I imported a clown to make it appear to be standing in front of the school.
Unfortunately, over the three day weekend, I left school unexpectedly early Thursday therefore, I did not pick up a camera to take home for our shooting assignment. However, some of my photos from previous assignment shoots were easily converted to black and white. The photo below I think is my best because the black and whites in this are bold but still balance out. An aperture of 3.5, a Shutter Speed of 1/25, and an ISO of 100. On Friday, I came home from school to find that my dad had decorated our house for Halloween. I started to take pictures revolving around the idea of fall, pumpkins, and leaves. Then, after having realized the photos I was taking didn't quite fit into an assignment category, I started shooting pictures of my little sister. While editing, the things I adjusted was the exposure of the picture which I brightened. I rotated the image 180 degrees as well. The photo below is my best picture with a Shutter Speed of 1/80, an Aperture of 3.5, and an ISO of 100. This assignment was all about becoming familiar with the photoshop application. We started out with a project from a former student and turned it into the picture below by increasing the vibrance of the car by manipulating the layers, darkening the background with the quick selection tool, and using the clone stamp tool to decrease the amount of glare on the hood of the car.
